Director of Engineering

We are hiring a Director of Engineering for a product-led consumer technology business building a polished, mobile-first direct-to-consumer product. This is deliberately not a conventional engineering leadership search. The team is looking for someone with one genuinely exceptional strength who is technically literate across the rest, rather than an evenly rounded manager.

The role

Lead engineering for a consumer product where UX, performance and product quality decide success
Stay hands-on enough to drop into a team and unblock it
Act as a real thought partner to the founder and product leadership
Set technical direction you can defend, with evidence of KPI impact

What we are looking for

Genuine depth in one of: iOS, backend, Go, AWS/platform, or ML and agentic AI
Technically literate across mobile, backend and data science even outside your spike
Strong consumer or D2C product exposure — subscription or engagement-led products are ideal
Speaks product fluently and sits comfortably beside strong product and design peers
Fast learner with real product taste
Less suited to purely enterprise or internal-tooling backgrounds, or process-heavy corporate engineering
